CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED AGAINST GOVERNMENT GREEN BELT HOUSING DEMANDS

Save Our Green Belt

Following the edict from Hazel Blears, the Secretary of State, stating that 7,250 houses should be built in the Green Belt around Poole and Bournemouth, including a NEW Town at Lytchett Minster, a South East Dorset Defence Consortium has been established by 7 Action Groups, (listed overleaf) supported by their local Councils and MP’s together with Dorset CPRE.

The Consortium has agreed the prime objective of fighting this imposition which will desecrate these green, environmentally sensitive areas.

“The Consortium brings together concerned local residence with their elected representatives,” says Nick King, Bournemouth’s Cabinet Member for Communication.  “We want to ensure that a common, robust, message is sent from South East Dorset to the Secretary of State.”

KEY MESSAGES  FROM THE CONSORTIUM

1.      Government DEMANDS :
·        48,100 EXTRA houses in Poole/Bournemouth Conurbation: changing our Area FOR EVER.
·        7,250 EXTRA houses in the Green Belt despite repeated Government promises
·        Massive 2,750 house NEW TOWN at Lytchett Minster.

No democratic Council asked for this.

Avalanche of flats when Dorset families want :
    Affordable houses and Green Space

No Infrastructure money for roads, schools, health, etc
All these new houses mean shortages for YOU

60,000 EXTRA cars and 5,000 EXTRA lorries and vans
means traffic Congestion Charging and Air Pollution for YOU

Terry Stewart, President of Dorset CPRE, says: “This central Government dictation, which totally ignores the research and evidence produced at the Public Inquiry, is a tragic attack on the environment and distinctiveness of our beautiful area.”

“It is essential that everyone writes to the Secretary of State to object.”

Save Our Green Belt!

The Consortium is producing a guide on how to object, because the rules are tight. The Consortium is launching a series of publicity events to wake the public to the threats to their quality of life. These will include a “Save Our Green Belt!” March from Bournemouth Pier, a Demonstration at Westminster, and a crescendo of activity from the 7 Action Groups.

The Bournemouth Council website will carry the details shortly.
